Has anybody here ever received TANF (temporary assistance for needy families) through the DSHS? If so, how difficult would you say it is to qualify? I am considering applying for it, yet I do not know if I qualify. FYI, my earnings are at a 2 year low (and they were low to begin with), and I'm on food stamps and unemployment.

If you want to insult me or denounce welfare that's fine, just please do it through private messaging.

You can use the form at Do I qualify? to see whether or not you are eligible. If you are eligible then follow the links on how to apply.

I don't think anyone here would insult you as much as the DSHS will. You will need therapy afterwards. Good luck!

You must be responsible for the care of children or be pregnant, have $1,000 or less in resources, no more than $5,000 equity in a vehicle. Income limits apply, of course.

That's probably close enough, but vehicle equity in excess of $5,000 counts towards the resource limit of $1,000. So, for example, a family with $5,900 of vehicle equity and $100 in other resources could still be technically eligible for TANF because their total resources would just meet the $1,000 resource limit. There is no specification on how to value vehicle equity (such as the Kelley Blue Book), so I would guess that it would be up to the case worker to decide in close situations.
