Hello All!

I landed a job in DC and currently live in a hotel in manassas.. It takes crazy 2 hours to drive back to the hotel.

I am looking for a 2 bedroom decent apartment (community managed). I am looking at $1450 tops

Need some suggestions from your folks :

1. what are the best places to rent for me (Commute-wise)
2. What would be better than Herndon/Reston area. Any suggestions in MD?
3. Any idea about the good communities near the train stations

Thanks for your inputs !

McLean, VA might be a great place to live as well as along the Northern portion of I-495 Beltway area in Maryland, it is more laid back and less shooting happen in that area in my opinion. But, I do have to warn you that Virginia and Maryland police is pretty tough on traffic stuff.

Fairfax has some great managed properties near the Vienna metro, Crystal City also has properties in your price range.

I think she'd be hard pressed to find a 2 bedroom (with parking) for $1450 in Crystal City, actually. I looked there a year or two ago and it cost more than $1450 for the 1br's I was looking at.

If the OP can get to her job from the metro, there are places in Alexandria that could be in the right price range, and they often run free shuttles to the metro station during rush hour. Driving will be significantly less time than from Manassas, but the drive up 395 at rush hour is generally ugly.

These suggestions are way out of whack for someone looking to spend $1450 max on a 2 BR. McLean? That's one of the priciest areas in the entire metro. Crystal City? Any 2 BR you find in Crystal City for that price is going to have some serious issues.

The only one that is remotely feasible is Fairfax--out by Vienna you might have some luck.

Also look at Silver Spring as a possibility--the apartments there tend to be cheaper than elsewhere, you're on the Red Line (major bonus) and you're just outside the District line.
