My SO and I are contemplating a move up to the DC area. I am from there, have lived in metro Atlanta for 13 years now, and really want to move back. I've visited at least yearly since moving as my family and many friends are still there, so I'm aware of the changes.
The big question is how much money we'll need to make in order to live comfortably up there. The job that he's applying for (Fed. Gov. job) will pay in the area of $100K, so our combined income will probably be in the $150K range. No kids so no worries about schools.
We're lucky that a close friend of mine has a house to rent in PG County. It's not in a great area, but it happens to be next door to the house that I grew up in, so I'm familiar with the area. Very convenient to the beltway and Metro. Not an area I'd like to live in now, but it would do until we get on our feet and figure out where we're going to buy. PG County is not an option.
Is there a website that compares cities? I'm kind of on information overload right now.
