I wonder how people find themselves in these situations. People try to talk to me on the train all the time. And unless they're asking for directions or something, I just stick my earphones in. If they keep trying to get my attention, I just turn the music up and start bobbing my head. That always seems to work.

I am sorry Mahatma but black and white kids live in completely separate worlds. Not many white kids in the DC area live in slums. Not many white kids have one parent or NO parent households. Not many white kids go to sh*tty public schools in DC or PG County. Not many white kids can look forward to racism and marginalization in society.
White kids live in more nurturing, safer, and wholesome family environments. Of course, white kids won't talk sh*t to grown men because they have nothing to be angry about. I grew up white and I get along well with everyone. Why? Because I had a good upbringing in a suburban, middle-upper class neighborhood where I felt safe and respected as a confident young man. You put a young black kid in the same situation and he might not be angry either. He would be self-confident and feel safer.
I am not excusing the obnoxious behavior of teens on the Metro. They all should know better. But there is a reason why white kids behave a certain way and why many black kids behave another way. And it's got nothing to do with flawed character or "evil" nature.
I wonder what set this dude off? It sounds like he was screaming "I'm not a f*gg*t!" a couple times at one of the ladies so I wonder if one of the guys may have called him that. I don't understand why so many of the other black people had to get involved once he unleashed the n' word, that only made the situation worse. Really, what good did it do for them to butt in? Had they just ignored it and chalked it up to a man losing his temper and lashing out in a moment of ignorance then it probably would haven't escalated to the level it did. But treating every epithet spoken in a moment of anger as some travesty of oppression is pointless. Sometimes you just have to take the high road and not threaten to cut someone's throat.
I don't think anybody should be proud of how they acted here.
As anyone who has spent any amount of time in the DC Metro (either on the Metro or just in the area) can attest, the amount of white on black crime pales in comparison to the reverse. Congratulations OP, you found the mythical white buffalo, a clip that shows a white person being antisocial and "Racist" on the train, even if it was a result of being subjected to racial and homophobic slurs prior to the beginning (and during) the filming.
I don't think you're going to find any sympathy towards those who are reacting violently in this video anywhere in DC, outside of perhaps the great reverend. I think most people who watch this video are going to feel bad for the Caucasian and pocket this away in their head as to "why I won't ever give money to, or live anywhere on the green line"
