I just heard that the King of Go-Go music Chuck Brown has passed away. I knew was in the hospital, but didn't know how serious. As a native NYer, I gradually became a fan of Go-Go as my musical taste matured. I would try to see Chuck perform whenever he had a show in NYC. Rest In Power Chuck, I know the DMV is feeling this one.
I remember Chuck Brown And The Soul Searchers at Anacostia Park, Bowie State, Howard and a few other places around DC. The absolute best in the go-go scene. RIP Chuck.
Rest in Peace, King of Go-Go! I'm only a recent, casual go-go fan, but much respect to him for an incredible musical legacy and being a true Washington icon. Wish I could of seen him live.
I can't think of a more beloved figure in the area. Chuck Brown WAS D.C.. Thanks for the decades of happiness. Most people don't realize this, but he had quite a following in the U.K..
i consider 'block party' my theme music for DC!! i remember getting on the i-76 east turnpike in monroeville, pa and playing that in my stereo knowing that i had escaped pittsburgh and was comin down to dc july of 2008........... thank you chuck for the motivation
America has lost an icon. He will be missed. A Rock and Roll Hall of famer and living legend. RIP.
