A lot of work is not being done right now--and realistically, morale and productivity have really been down over the last few days. I wouldn't be surprised if a few contracts had extra expenses or were lost as a result, too. All this political game playing and preparation for a shutdown cost the government $$$.
Didn't the last shutdown last a few weeks? I was just a boy back then so I don't remember the political climate but it seems that it's even more heated and partisan now than it was then.
I was 10 when the government last shut down. I don't think it affected my folks, can't remember at all. This one wouldn't affect me either. But a lot of my friends are pretty pissed off, posting facebook statuses and everything. Some would have to use vacation time to get paid.

One lasted a week, around the week before Thanksgiving, while the other lasted from 12/16/95 through 1/6/96, so about 3 weeks.
Yeah, it's not much of a "Spring Break" when government workers could be facing a period of unpaid leave and they might not get reimbursed for days (or weeks) lost due to the shutdown. We are talking about bills, rent, mortgages and other expenses that might not get paid on time.

Dont worry, it wont last long. This is more political theater...both sides want to make the other side look like the bad guy. In my opinion, they are BOTH bad. It should never have come to this. Ridiculous.

Real tacky post on your part.
Yeah, I'll keep those unfortunate folks in mind when I'm immersed in this period of unpaid leave that might not be reimbursed for days (or ever) due to the shutdown. We are talking about MY bills, rent and other expense that might not get paid.
How much will you be directly impacted, oh righteous arbiter of all that you perceive to be ethical and good?
As I was saying, as a federal employee, I shall do my best to enjoy my sudden Spring Break. Whoo hoo. Thanks for your concern.
