Does anyone know of a decent middle point between southern Calvert County and Arlington that could possibly be a reasonable commute for both my boyfriend and I, and that is 20-somethings friendly??

Idk Probably somewhere in Prince Georges or Anne Arundel County.

Bowie/Upper Marlboro is somewhat 20-something friendly. If you want to be somewhere there is alot of young people then you have to live in DC or VA. Adams Morgan(DC) and Alexandria are nice place for people in their 20's.

Middle ground is rough as it means both of you have had hellish commutes. You both will be tired. You both will have driven around quite a bit. You both will be cranky.

Have you considered a one or the other solution? One of you lives closer to work--very close in fact, in exchange that person does the housework, prepares the meals, handles the expenses, etc. The other person has a longer commute but less hassles?

Personally, driving through DC to Arlington (i.e. from Suitland across the freeway and into Arlington and vice versa) during rush hour can be as long as driving from the DC border to Calvert County. Crossing the bridges and freeways can take quite a bit of time if there is a wreck. If you are going to look for a middle ground, I would aim closer to Arlington. Base it on time in car not actual distance miles.

I'd go with the Alexandria area, either Old Town or Carlyle. That's the only place I'd consider "20-something friendly" that is even close to a "middle ground".

Alexandria is a lot closer to Arlington than Calvert, but the commute to southern Calvert is against traffic. It's an hour and a half or less to Solomons (the southern tip of Calvert County)
