My husband and I are considering relocating to southern MD. We currently live in LI, NY ... Nassau County. The thing that is holding us back are the schools up here. My son has an IEP and my daughter is dong fine in school. They are both elementary age. It is really my son that is of concern if we move to MD. Would he get the same level of services he gets up here? Supposedly I hear not to go down south because services are better in NY but it is expensive up her tax wise and the employment opportunities seem better down there. Is anyone familiar with the schools in southern MD?

First off, you need to specify which county. St Mary's, Charles and Calvert would be considered southern Maryland. There are good and poor schools within each county. I suggest searching the board for similar questions. For example, this post: https://www.city-data.com/forum/wash...s-calvert.html

If you were asking about Montgomery or Howard Counties, I would strongly recommend the schools. Maryland in not in the "Deep South" and folks pay a lot in taxes for good schools. Kids with IEP's have to be handled.
