There is no way Baltimore County is like Charles. Just silly.

Baltimore County would be much more like Howard as one poster stated above. Look at a map. The largest part of Baltimore County is north of the city. Much larger than the west, or east (The least economically prosperous part) of the county.

A usual, most people that post on here no very little about the area. Many people I encounter that are from here judge the entire areas by commercial zones not knowing a damn thing about over 70% of the area. They have probably never saw half of it!

I'd probably venture to say that Montgomery County would have the most similarities to Baltimore County if we just included the portions of Baltimore County that lie north of the city.

Prince George's County could probably best be clumped together with western Baltimore County (ie. Woodlawn, Randallstown, Owings Mills)

Actually, I can see the similarities between Baltimore County and Charles County. Both of them are low-density suburban, solidly middle class bedroom communities with not a huge base of professional-level employment. Both of them used to be mainly white, but have had substantial in-migrations by black people from neighboring jurisdictions in recent(ish) years. A good portion of the traffic on their major highways consists of thru-traffic from outer areas passing through.

I don't really see Baltimore County being all that similar to Howard County. For one thing, Howard has a much higher median income. Also, where is Baltimore County's equivalent of the historic mill town of Ellicott City, or the major planned community of Columbia? While it's true that there are some high-performing schools in Baltimore County, the county as a whole is not known for the excellence of its school system, like Howard County is. Howard County, perhaps more so than anywhere else in Maryland, has a commuting base that is divided between two major cities. Whereas, the majority of Baltimore County's commuters (those who are leaving the county) are going only to Baltimore.

I will say, one similarity between these two counties is that they both have large agricultural zones in which development has been severely restricted.

I think that the similarity between Howard and Calvert is that both of them are known for higher-performing schools and higher median incomes -- within their respective regions (Baltimore metro and Southern Maryland, respectively). I would venture to guess that average house size (in terms of square footage) is probably larger in these counties than in their neighboring ones, though I don't know that for sure.
