Retail Properties of America announced Monday it has halted plans for vertical construction at its Carillon development near the Largo Town Center Metro station in Prince George's County. The developer expects to finish site work preparation on the property this year, but RPAI said it has decided not to go vertical on the project in response to "current macroeconomic conditions." It also said it is evaluating a "material reduction in scope and spend" for the development.

It is just like the recession in 2008. There were tons of developments in the pipeline that just vanished. It took at least 7 years for the pace to pick up. I'd expect to see more construction delays and scale-backs. we had a great ride these past 6-7 years. Things are going to slow way down again.

It'll be a big shame if this project doesn't go forward as intended.

It will. This downturn now is just a blip. That is unless the developer was looking for a way to bail anyway and this happened at the opportune moment.

I'm not so sure about that. It might not pick up immediately after the pandemic is over. However this situation is vastly different than the one in 2008.

What's the deal on the new PG County hospital facility? Didn't they break ground on the construction sometime in 2017?

Yeah, the approval process took forever for it which put the project behind a good deal of time.. But yeah, a 3 and a half year build time sounds about right for a project that big..
