MD Live basically services Howard, Anne Arundel, northern PG, and much of Montgomery County which are heavily populated and should continue to provide support as I heard the other day that revenue there was up in April. It avoids the hassles of the city and still has plenty of parking, adjacent shopping/entertainment, and is close to BWI.

Horseshoe serves Baltimore City/County along with some tourists since this is visible along I-95. The key though is to make it safe and improve access and the surrounding neighborhood with more things to do. That's basically part of South Baltimore and not downtown.

National Harbor of course will service DC, most of PG county, the I-270/Bethesda side of Montgomery County, Southern Maryland, and most of Northern Virginia.

Perryville probably would service York/Lancaster/western Chester counties in Pennsylvania more than MD, basically just Hartford county and Cecil County, with even the Elkton area also using Delaware Park as their second casino (they still have to pay an $8 round trip toll through the tunnel round-trip in Baltimore, so the toll issue is basically a wash). With regards to Maryland the targeted casinos by region/county, Kent/Queen Anne's uses Dover Downs, Talbot/Caroline counties Harrington, the lower eastern shore Ocean Downs, Frederick/Washington Counties Hollywood Casino Charles Town Races, and Garrett and Allegany uses Rocky Gap. Carroll County is a bit further from a casino, but tends to mix between Hollywood Charlestown and Maryland Live. Philly of course is serviced by Harrah's, SugarHouse, Philadelphia Park, and the Valley Forge casinos, meaning that Perryville's is by far the most provincial in terms of coverage. I'd rather have that Perryville location go to where the abandoned Atlantic City Showboat/Revel is than waste it in a smaller populated and less touristy area.

Note: This should be in the general Maryland forum.

Since PA also has casinos don't expect Perryville to service very many people from there.

What I said when this gambling adventure began a few years ago, the pie stayed the same size but more pieces are being cut from it, is being played out now.

I don't know, but living in fort washington, I just don't know how this traffic situation is going to be bearable at all without a massive investment. They didn't add lanes on oxon hill road, they added two traffic circles. Okay...

If you spend hours gridlocked trying to get there, are you likely to return?

I hope for the best in terms of luring established, high end performances.

Well to address this, the lanes on Oxon Hill Road were supposed to be 4 lanes but the local residents vehemently opposed expanding the lanes. It doesn't make sense for them to have done that but I believe they thought their efforts would holt development and of course they were wrong.

For residents that live outside of MD, other than trying to get out of the National Harbor area, there are really no issues getting around to it because the exit is right off the highway, but the local residents will have it worse. There are plans to start on 210 at some point soon (if they haven't already done some preliminary work already) to build an overpass over Kerby Hill Road and to remove the light at Wilson Bridge Drive. When that project is done, it will improve traffic quite a bit, but the problems is that project is not expected to be done until 2019, so until then it will be a nightmare for those who live nearby.

I agree that the opposition to expansion makes no sense and will result in a lot of suffering for many years. I can understand opposing growth way back when, but with the foreclosure crisis still very much affecting the local area, we need to attract as much investment as possible. You aren't going to get that Wegman's you want, (for example,)unless and until you stop opposing any and all growth.

And this is one of the reasons why MGM National Harbor will steal market share away from the rest of Maryland casinos. Marketing!

What Happens in Oxon Hill, Stays in Oxon Hill.

The current MGM National Harbor “Building Excitement” slogan is, of course, temporary. Before long, the $1.3 billion resort will be readying its open — it will be built, let’s say — and the tagline will need to change.
What will it be? That has yet to be determined, but the firm behind “What Happens Here, Stays Here” will play a role in the branding strategy.
MGM Resorts International has tapped D.C.-based R&R Resources+, a certified minority-owned business, and Las Vegas-based R&R Partners to lead brand development and marketing efforts for MGM National Harbor.

And this will be another one....

MGM has released images of the mocked-up guest rooms it will build in the planned 24-story, 308-room hotel tower. The rooms were built out in a warehouse space in Prince George’s County to test and develop what MGM describes as a “serene setting that blends the resort’s surrounding geography with comfortable, functional design.”

Based on the article they have set up prototypes in a warehouse somewhere in the county to test out their ideas. Like you the aesthetic was at par with most hotels in that category but the comfort features were something new to me. It will be interesting to see how other parts of the resort look. I can't wait until they begin the pre-opening tours.
