I know you asked about public transport, but if you can afford it, just have an airport shuttle van pick you up. (and you can pay for a round trip so that when you come back they'll pick you up at the terminal and take you home.)

I ride the bus 201 on a regular basis-it's only 5 bucks each way and unlike MARC it runs 7 days a week (MARC is supposed to expand its service on weekends in late Fall or early winter-the bus leaves from Shady Grove Metro and gaithersburg park and ride once a hour-the buses are clean and nice-

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! The 201 bus seems like the best/simplest solution for me. I'm within walking distance to the red line in N.Bethesda/Rockville.

I'm not hurting for money or anything, but a van seems unnecessarily expensive for me. I'm traveling very light. If I ever have a bunch of luggage in the future, I'd probably spring for a car/van.

Glad you have so many options. I'm all about convenience and not a public transit person at all. The price may have gone up since I last used an airport shuttle service -- but 40 bucks or so to get picked up and dropped off door-to-door is my kind of thing. Your way is cheaper, though.

It seems that the MTA Trip Planner did not know about the 201 bus, so I am sorry for the glut of irrelevant information. I am glad someone mentioned it.

Ha, I didn't even think of going north to Gaithersburg first.
