Is there any construction that would affect either route, sat. mornings at 11 a.m.

I'm leaning toward 295 south .. I just hate NY Ave. but if it's THAT much better I'd take that way.
I'll stick with 295. No traffic signals.

Just a heads up, a police with a speed camera likes to sit behind the "Welcome to Washington DC".

Yeah, and there's at least one speed camera that way, too.

I always choose 295 over 50 except when there is some traffic snarl, like an accident, or construction. A few months ago I lost over an hour trying to use the Suitland Parkway ramps when there was construction going on at Howard Rd and 295, or somewhere near there. On that particular day, NY Ave would have been faster. (I say that, but I don't normally take NY Ave all the way to the 3rd St. Tunnel. I use other roads once I get to the Bladensburg rd area.)
