Howard and Anne Arundel are better geographically because they have more highways that connect to DC Baltimore and Annapolis. Montgomery County is great in many ways but it’s geographically difficult. You rely on 270 and 200 in Montgomery County and if those roads are jammed, then Montgomery County feels further away than even Virginia and Pennsylvania. They should have built a better road system there. Schools are great in Montgomery and Howard, and Anne Arundel also has good schools.

I love the Metro access in MoCo. Red Line is my transportation of choice going into D.C.

Pros:

???????????
1) It's expensive everywhere

2) ...same as everywhere else?

3) It's the DC job market , the jobs are there you need to look for them

4) As for the people , you get what you give.

5) You're right it's only cold in Montgomery County, nowhere else in Md.

I agree.

On the incorrect, not only is the winter rather short here in this area (certainly not "cold" for 7 months out of the year), but I find it to be quite mild most of the time.

One can say that housing is expensive, but I've also found it to be reasonable (though I know that this is more subjective). We pay less than $1,800 a month for a spacious one bedroom in a new luxury building in Rockville.

We absolutely love the Rockville/Gaithersburg area. Lot's of good Asian food and food in general. Wonderful neighborhood amenities as well.

Now, general cons for the county is that there is a county income tax, IMO. This on top of the state income tax.

MoCo is really nice, I dont think you're alone. But youre certainly in the minority.

Only serious drawback is the traffic IMO.

It's a heterogeneous area. I think the days where one could say "MoCo is the wealthy suburbs of D.C. in Maryland" are kind of gone. It's been transitioning into a 'suburban mega county' with everything from mansions to dodgy apartment complexes, from luxury shops to run down strip malls.

MoCo has never been homogenous. The "dodgy apartments" and "run down strip malls" are from the 50s and 60s - it's not like the more modest post-war neighborhoods were built yesterday. They've been working class areas for 70 years. The only difference is that working class has gone from predominantly white to predominantly hispanic and some people view the latter as less-than.
