Hello! I'm moving to the area soon and would like to hear what people think about the Silver Spring Towers apartment complex in downtown Silver Spring. I'm actually a little more interested in what you think of the surrounding area instead of the complex itself. It's located close to the corner of Fenton and Bonifant.

In particular, I'm wondering how safe it is to walk around the neighborhood. (I'm from urban/suburban area in MI if that gives you an idea of my safety comfort level) I'm also interested in farmer's markets and organic/coop stores - are there any within walking distance? What about good bakeries and coffee houses? (If you can't tell, I love food!) Also, and this isn't a deal breaker - but are there any pottery studios in the area - places where I can rent space or take classes?

I currently live just outside of Ann Arobr, MI and love it - has anyone lived in / visited A2 and also lived in SS? I like the urban/artsy feel and I have always felt completely safe by myself in A2 - I'm looking for as similar a place to A2 as I can find in the DC area. If you don't think Silver Spring fits the bill, do you have any other suggestions about where to look? Thanks!

I work in the area and at least during the day it is pretty safe. Can't tell you about at night. There is a Whole Foods grocery store within walking distance and a nice little coffee shop about a block from Bonifant at Fenton and Silver Spring Avenue. You'll find that there are many restuarants and carry outs throughout the area. Very diverse in cuisine also. Walk down the street about 3 blocks and you will be in the main downtown area where most of the new stores, restuarants, and businesses are. This area is probably perfectly safe to walk around in the evening.
