I have a friend of a Christian Rock Band who lives in Damascus, Virginia, and I seem to can't find any apartments down there. And I was looking at Apartments, like locally near Damascus, like Bristol, V.a./T.n. and Johnson City, T.n. Am I gonna have to possibly relocate in any of those 2 cities order to be near him?

Damascus is very small, less than 1000 people and I don't think they have any apartments. You could look at nearby Abingdon - it is larger and may have a few rentals. But you may have to go to one of those larger cities just to find a job and an apartment.

Sorry I'm a bit late to reply here, but the above is correct. Damascus is a beautiful area, but quite remote. Bristol, Abingdon or maybe even Wytheville (if you're willing to venture an hour or so) are going to be your best options. Abingdon is near Emory and Henry, so there are going to be more living options there, due to the few students that cannot live on campus.

You can certainly find apartments or townhomes to rent in Abingdon. You would only be fifteen minutes away from Damascus by car - thirty by bicycle via the Creeper Trail biking/hiking path! It's about twelve miles from Abingdon to Damascus.

You don't need to go to Bristol, or Johnson City, or even Marion to rent a place. Nothing wrong with them, but there are a lot of places available in Abingdon, so why spend more for fuel by driving even farther?

The only thing you might find in Damascus would be a garage apartment, or something like that. It is basically just a wide spot in the road, even though it has a ton of character. Everyone there is 'settled', so there's just houses available. Damascus is a great little town, though - VERY outdoorsy, very accepting of alternative lifestyles from their visitors, etc. You've never seen so many bicycles per capita in your life - not even in Hong Kong. Lots of hikers always trudging through town, etc. Hippies & rednecks coexist quite peacefully. Just a nice little town. No traffic signals, the 'downtown' is two blocks long. Very, very pleasant...

Smile abingdon is nice.

i have lived in abingdon virginia all my life, and honestly, its not a bad place to live. it really depends on what type of lifestyle you would personally prefer, but all in all, its a relatively agreeable little slice of nostalgia. theres lots of historical value here, and its kinda charming, i believe. there arent lots of people, and the people that are here are quite neighborly for the most part. now, Damascus, thats a beautiful place. you cant meet nicer people. anywhere in the world. there arent many jobs, except for at the Columbus Mckinnon plant there in town. But other than that, its a great place to live. abingdon has maaaany more jobs, and places to rent, but i'd say if you tried hard enough, you could find a place to rent in damascus, and cheap.
