I have been living off and on in Las Vegas since 1983, but lived a short stay in the tri-city area in Virginia back in late 80's and thought it was beautiful. Las Vegas has gotten way too large for me and I am looking for a small town to move to. My children live in Maryland right now and I am looking for something closer. I can only afford a rent of $450-$500 plus utilities. After looking online it shows that this county is a mountainess region. That is pretty much what I am looking for. I am disabled, so employment is not a priority. Any information you can give would be greatly appreciated such as- local newspapers for classified, what are your recommendations for a small town area? What is the best way to find rentals in area?

Thank You,
Kris

I can tell you that Tazewell is a LONG ways away from Maryland - but most definatley closer than Las Vegas.

I would consider an area a bit closer to Winchester or Harrisonburg, a more managable trip to Marlyland..best of luck...

Yes, Tazwell IS mountainous and you should be able to find something in your rent range BUT>>>>> you are at least a 6-8 hour drive to Maryland depending on which part you are going to. Being disabled you might also want to keep in mind that the healthcare is SW VA is severely lacking. If you were closer to Bristol you might have more options. The closest city to Tazwell is Bluefield VA/WVA but you won't find much there. Tazwell is not a close drive to anywhere. Also the county seems to get a lion's share of bad weather in the winter, lots of ice and snow.

I would suggest the outskirts of Winchester and perhaps just over the state line into W. VA around Capon Bridge and west or north. You would have your mountains, country and more affordable housing, closer to quality healthcare and much closer to any part of Maryland.
