A family friend will be moving to the Fairfax area soon and has three kids, aged 3, 9, and 15. Where are the best public schools that the two older kids could attend?

You will get more feedback if you post in the Northern Virginia specific forum.

And, sorry to be blunt but everything revolves around money. Your friend's budget will determine the school they attend. If you give a maximum housing price and the style (detached house, townhouse, apartment), renting/buying etc, people will be able to give suggestions. There's no point in telling you Langley HS, if they can't afford that part of McLean.

Good luck.

The schools are pretty much all the same as far as the class sizes, facilities, teachers, resources, and curricula. Only the students attending them vary. As LL says, where they go depends where they fit financially. My kids went to lower than average scoring schools there (they draw from some less affluent neighborhoods) and got very good educations.

Even in the Northern Virginia forum, the original question is too broad to really get effective advice.
