I can't wait for it, It'll probably be a Christmas present I'll have to pay half of for but I don't care lol. The one and only thing that's disappointed me about it so far is that it doesn't seem to be able to play UMD's so no backwards comparability with 90% of my PSP games, bummer. Sure I could re-buy the downloadable versions on the PS store if I really wanted to but even then you still miss out on some games like Birth by Sleep which they promised would never be digital for some reason (and it also happens to be my very favorite PSP game). So yeah, it'd be great if they come out with a version that plays UMD's later on, on the other hand that means waiting to buy it cause it's looking too expensive to just buy a new one as soon as a new model comes out, not that I really do that with anything.

Well you cant really blame Sony for the Birth by Sleep issue. If you ask me thats a big mistake on the Devs part. A developer fighting against the Digital Download trend will soon be in a losing battle, especially for handhelds. I sold all my UMDs the morning the NGP wad anounnced. Jan 27...Once they said no UMD I knew the value of them would start to drop. Backward capability leads to brand loyality. Both Apple & Nintendo add to this trend. I have not repurchased my games yet, but I have download a lot from the money I got for the UMDs. E3 we will get more info.

I don't blame Square though, I'm not a fan of the digital download trend at all. For me, I don't like not having a hard copy of something if I can get it over a "data version". In my opinion it's Sony's mistake, a large part of the PSP library isn't available for download so they're seriously limiting bc. Just like how the new PS3's don't have PS2 bc anymore, that's an important feature they really shouldn't be ignoring, it was always one of their best advantages and features in my opinion.
I can completely understand the "No UMD's" thing. I really can.
One of the things that drove up the cost of the PS3 was having a full emotion engine in order to provide full backwards compatiblity. It was like they were selling you a PS2 inside a PS3. Once they switched to the partial BC and finally "No BC", those added with the streamlining of parts meant that they could reduce the price of the PS3 to compete better.
As it is, the NGP is looking at, what, $300? I can only imagine how much it would increase the price to try and fit a UMD reader inside. Now, I'm not sure how the touch-pad in the back is going to play out (besides the creation of random bloatware games designed for fun) but that, added to all the other nifty things inside the PSP means that there's just not room for UMD reader.
I wasn't upset when Nintendo got rid of the GBA slot from their handheld models. I still have devices that will play them. And I won't be upset that a next-gen portable won't have last-gen technology. I'm not planning on *ever* selling my PSP.

I don't plan on ever selling any of my systems or my games, but backwards compatibility matters alot to me cause all those old games and systems aren't gonna last forever. My SNES, Dreamcast, and N64 don't work so well anymore (all versions of the Gameboy seem to have surprisingly long lives though which is awesome), and at this point the memory cards on the PS1 and PS2 aren't so reliable anymore either and they definitely won't be in the future. (I have all my PS1 and 2 saves backed up but on my PS3 slim because my first one broke...) I don't wanna not be able to play Birth by Sleep in 10 years cause my PSP broke or doesn't work anymore and I can't find another one.

I agree with Roxy. My older systems are having some kinks too. Thats one thing I like about the Virutal Console on the Wii. Allows you to play without worrying about the hardware so much. But, like Roxy, I like to have the actual hard copies of the game, although I have bought a few games via Steam and Windows Marketplace (there WERE some awesome deals last Christmas!!).
Having b/c on the newer gen systems allows us to be able to play the slightly older systems games without worrying so much. The 360 has not had an update in a LONG time for the backwards compatibility on the old Xbox, and its unfortunate that the PS3 no longer has b/c with the PS2. Thankfully, I have a PS2 slim that works really good still, so no worries there. I also have a couple DS systems (a DS Lite, and a DS), and enjoy the b/c with the GBA.
