One nice thing they do here (well, they do a lot of nice things but..) is let parents know by telephone if the school is going to be closed. We get warned by auto dialer by the superintendent of the district.

They usually call by 6 am, but while I was out walking my dog, they called us tonight. As I walked in, my son (who was supposed to be doing his home work) gave me a big grin and said, "You're going to want to listen to the message on the machine, Mom!"

I thought maybe my sister or other relative had called...nope, it was the school...closed tomorrow...

Bet you son is psyched! Probably a good thing, as the timing of the storm is not great for those that need to commute to work/school.
We rarely had school cancelled when I was growing up. Snow days were a rare treat!

That is nice of them to let you know ahead of time.
Makes life easier.

When I was going to school in Colorado snow days were rare also.
It pretty much had to a blizzard.

I pity folks getting that ICE STORM
If I never have to live through one again would be fine with me.

Hmmmmm....I wonder if I remind our son that the school may be trying to call if it would be enough to pry the phone from his ear. Probably not....he's chatting with the girlfriend! I love the automated systems. Here I thought we had something special LOL Here in North Central PA they are calling for 7 to 10. I don't think we have had such a hard winter since the early 80's. Awe, I guess we'll need to go snowboarding and sled riding this weekend At this point though the boys might find out what it is like to go to "Summer School"

Barre Town and Barry City are in... go figure. I guess they didn't think 10"-16" of snow was enough...

I got our automated calls this morning....two of them as my kids are in two different districts due to their ages. The calls arrived like "30 seconds" apart around 6:00am. I love this new system...cause there are no guessing games and I don't get the kids up before learning of the cancellations. It messes my work schedule up though I must confess! But I'm happy the kids are at home and not out on the roads.

This morning when I woke up I didn't think it looked too bad. But, as the day as gone on, it's pretty heavy, though I still think the kids could have gone. The school is only down the road.

I just think that in VT we, parents and road crews, should be prepared to deal with this kind of weather. It is crazy to close the schools for two or three days a month during the winter due to weather conditions in VT. Come on !
I am in Proctor and there is no school bus here for the kids. This is something shameful!! If we had a school bus service we could send our kids safely to school even in severe weather conditions.
