I’m interested in what you have to say about the Blackberry and/or the iPhone, especially as regards:
  • Coverage in Vermont
  • Costs
  • User interface
  • Ease of syncing between PDA and computer
  • For a non-Mac person
  • For a non-tech person who will never be one

Thanks!

iPhones do work in VT, but you can't buy one IN Vermont - yet.

AT&T doesn't actually have any towers in Vermont, so if you have a VT address, it's been impossible to buy any AT&T service....but due to a cell tower buy/sell (I think Unicell sold to Verizon which sold to AT&T), AT&T should be providing within VT sometime this year.

That being said, I have an iPhone and it works fine everywhere I've been in VT...but slow. There's no 3G network, so it all runs on edge or roaming and getting on the internet, etc, is painful. Phone calls are no problem at all though.

No problem!

I'm just a Mac geek at heart so had to step up for the iPhone.

Oh - and Sheryl, the syncing between an iPhone and a mac is ridiculously easy...I'm not sure if it's as easy with a PC, but since it utilizes iTunes, I would imagine it must be at least a little bit similar. If you are ever in the Waitsfield area, you can stop by at Small Dog Electronics - they are an Apple reseller and very helpful...though they are not allowed to sell the iPhone, they know all about it and can probably talk you through syncing a PC.

Not true anymore....

The AT&T switchover actually happened last week so iphones are now available to buy/sign up for service in Vermont. The phones are only available a the AT&T stores (former unicel stores). There were apparently long lines the first day they became avaible...people couldnt wait!
