I made this graphic and thought you might be interested in seeing

Period of Jan 1st to Feb 6th, this year is colder & snowier than last year.

Take a look at these locations & compare .

There's only 1 location on this graphic which is not snowier this year vs last year for the period, can you find it?

If we add December into the mix last year is colder that's because this past December was so warm

It's funny because everyone keeps complaining to me about how cold this winter is and I am constantly thinking last year was worse. I guess I'm remembering it being very cold early on and staying that way for awhile.

My friends in NYC are quite happy about the lack of snow ha ha. I'm looking forward to another big storm!! Cam are you getting anything decent from this storm, or mostly ice?

48hrs ago things we're looking good with a 10"+ snowfall here... Now, front wont move south as far as thought so warm air aloft will change it to ice because surface is so cold..

I think I'm getting 3" total then ice. It's ashame, I don't want to see current snowpack drop. Still at 12"! Pretty deep considering where I am. lol Last storm was 5 days ago

Yeah, the other thing was we had breaks last year. We had a big thaw from January 10 to Jan 20th having above normal temps. This year feels more consistent with the cold with only a 1-3 day break but still not even in the 40s as the break.

I think the media's "polar vortex" get inside our minds last yr and that's why we think Last year was colder. lol

December definitely was though.

--------------------------------

Did you guys see what could be coming next week? Coldest temps of the season (mid February) and possibly near extreme records for some. Starts Thursday or so and lasts couple days.

Here's what the GFS says the max temps will be next Saturday.

The coldest max for Bridgeport at the coast is 12. It has 6°.
The coldest winter Max for Burlington on record is -18. It has -12.
The coldest February Max for Burlington is -12 so this would tie that extreme.

BTV Discussion

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BURLINGTON VT
1258 PM EST SAT FEB 7 2015

BIG STORY WILL BE WHAT`S BEHIND THE CLIPPER AS A STRONG 1040MB HIGH
OVER THE GREAT PLAINS THURSDAY DRIFTS SOUTHEASTWARD TO THE OHIO
RIVER VALLEY BY FRIDAY. PRESSURE GRADIENT BETWEEN THE HIGH AND
EXITING CLIPPER EXPLODING OFFSHORE WILL BRING VERY STRONG COLD
AIR ADVECTION TO THE NORTHEAST ON NORTHERLY FLOW WITH 925MB TEMPS
CRASHING TO -30F THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING. COULD TURN
OUT TO BE ONE OF THE COLDEST NIGHTS OF THE SEASON, AS IF IT
ALREADY HASN`T BEEN COLD ENOUGH. DOESN`T GET MUCH BETTER FOR
FRIDAY EITHER AS TEMPS MIGHT NOT BREAK THE ZERO MARK. WIND
CHILL`S WOULD ALMOST CERTAINLY BE AN ISSUE SO STAY TUNED

Latest snowfall total forecast. Don't forget to report your totals. Do it every hour or during the storm and of course the final. For NWS Burlington area (not 2 southern counties, that's NWS Albany coverage area) there's a phone number to call. See link for those not sure..
