My family always enjoyed Lentil Loaf for get togethers and smaller holidays. I would fill out the meal with sweet potato casserole, asparagus, mashed turnips, cucumber salad, spinach souffle , broccoli, sting beans casserole etc.

Thing is that while I fussed about the sides Lentil Loaf was made by Morning Star Farms. Any one remember it? It was a staple for us.

I have tried several recipes and I can not for the life of me replicate this recipe.

Does anyone know anything close?

Thanks! I'll have to try this. I don't use a recipe for my lentil loaf & I see I have been using too much flour so mine comes out rather brick-like LOL!

However, I do prefer lentil burgers fried up crisp rather than lentil loaf.

Although I am considering becoming a vegetarian, I have not made the leap. I have had some wonderful vegetarian dishes that one would swear was meat. How does this lentil loaf fare as far as tasting anything like meat?

Lentil loaves and burgers taste like savoury dense lentils - lentils are delicious in themselves. I guess the idea for this as a loaf is to provide a sturdy component to the meal - so it doesn't taste like meat - but it isn't supposed to

If you want a "meatier" taste to the lentil loaf recipe above, add a few splashes of liquid smoke. You can find it at Walmart for around $1-$2 a jar.

The one I am attempting to replicate did not taste like meat the way a meat analog does.
It had brown rice, veggies etc. If I knew what else I wouldn't be asking.
But it was provide a sturdy vehicle for mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, and the veggie of your choice.

You might try searching with keywords "lentil loaf". I did a search and came up with several recipes that might work for you.

Good luck!
