My husband is considering taking a job in Vancouver and we are looking to rent a home in a nice neighborhood there. His job will be close to the Vancouver Mall but I've been looking at homes in the Cascade Park and Orchards area. Are these good/safe neighborhoods with good elementary schools? From what I've read, the area around the mall is not a good choice, is that true? Any suggestions as to neighborhoods to look in? I've been hearing good things about Camas but my husband feels it's a bit far and we haven't found any homes for rent in that area in our price range.

There are a few Apartments you MIGHT like, but SAFE... generally yes, I would NOT do Orchards or West (high density rental) Cascade Park. There are some nice enclaves and smaller apartment complexes that COULD be desirable.

I would tell hubby to DRIVE from Camas (10 - 20 Minutes, minimal traffic) What's your budget and size needs (3bdrm?)?.

Kid's EDU and DW quality of life need to take 1st priority. YOU live with it 24x7... DH escapes to WORK. Get what YOU need to be happy and successful. If DH is not willing to get a job and move to Singapore while kids are in school... then go to Camas or Fisher's Landing for elementary and Camas for grades beyond.

Hint... go 2 Camas 1st... one move, cheaper, less hassle, less 'daily de-programming'.

YMMV

+1 on Camas, although there is very little multi family housing in the area.
