Hi, I'm Sam a 28 year old male from the U.K. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction regarding information on making a permanent move to Utah? I don't have a job set up but I'm self employed so would like to carry that on. The move is primarily due to meeting a lovely Utahrian lady (Did I just make that word up? lol). I'm guessing theres more red tape if you're moving from a different country as appose to relocating from within the U.S. Are there any people from the U.k on here who could explain the process? I've heard theres some test you have to take before being considered for entry, is this true? I must add I have no criminal convictions, I'm a good British lad :0)

Thanks in advance for any information. It will be greatly appreciated.

Google: Pulaski's ways. How to live and work in the USA.

I'm from the UK. Better marry the lady if you want to live in the USA. Even then, you will to move back to Blighty for 6 months so that she may petition you. You could come in on a fiance visa - I think that is explained in Pulaski's Ways.

Good luck.

My husband is from the UK and I'm American (we both are now). You can try applying under a fiance visa (we did this 15 years ago). I am not sure if the rules have changed.

When we did it, we had to marry within 3 months of my husband getting the visa and coming here.

You will need a medical exam. Tests? No, I don't think so, but lots of paperwork.

You can contact the USA consulate (or is it embassy) in London for info. Good luck!

Utahn would be the proper term for a Utah resident.

Perhaps your girlfriend in Utah could also help you.

Best of luck and I hope it all goes well for your move and your relationship.

Rules have changed for the fiance visas. You now have to marry within 30 days of arrival. Maske sure you have the consulate people check your paper work. They can reject it easily if it has the wrong coma placed. Take lots of film pictures. Digital can be manipulated, and they want to make sure the pictures are not doctored. When in doubt, give more information than required. We went through this recently with my son-in-law. He worked for the state department in Venezuela, so he knew what to do to get here. It was still iffy with his background that he might do something wrong.

I also have a very good friend who married a lady from Thailand without her going home, or getting the fiance visa. That was here in Utah. They are waiting for their immigration interview to see if she is allowed to stay in the country. It is a real big chance that you will be sent home for 6 months to several years if you do it that way. It is a challenge, and there are some very good immigration attornies in SLC.

Have you ever visited Utah and where in Utah? I have met several people from the UK but only while their on vacation at Zion National or Bryce Canyon.

Just a thought.

Sorry for the long time replying back. I've actually been out in Utah visiting said girl and am going back over for Christmas and New Year. The place in Utah is Layton, which didn't seem too far from SLC. Have to say, its a lovely state; or what I saw of it, anyway. Thanks for all the tips. I've also been reading up on the ex-pat board about marriage visa's etc, and whereas it seems theres alot of paperwork if you're an honorable citizen, and truly in love, it shouldn't be a problem. Just damn long winded by the sounds of it
