South Asian admixture in people of British Ancestry (America, showing)

I've noticed and seen it written before that many people who claim a lot of British ancestry have more south asian admixture showing up on dna tests than other Europeans. Obviously some of this can be attributed to the colonization if India, but what about those who's ancestors were in America before then?
