Apparently quantum physics is already showing us that time travel and warping space is possible and in a few years will be a reality. Then it does not matter how far away these distant stars are, we will be able to get there in very little time. Now.. if we can almost do that now, then others will be able to do that and will be able to get here easily.
I wish that were the case, but my guess is that we're a couple of centuries or more from having a practical FTL drive that doesn't take a sun's worth of energy to power it (which might be the case with the Alcubierre drive), and it's not clear time travel will ever be possible.
The earth as an interesting place to go? Why? Our sun is nothing particularly special, we have a planetary system, a few planets in the Goldilocks zone, but our early detection of far away solar systems is finding this to be quite common through out the galaxy. Most of our planets are small, nothing interesting about our area of the galaxy that we know of, much more interest near black holes or evolving star clusters, nebulae, novas, neutron stars, to an advanced civilization I would think the locales of high energy sources would attract their scientists, to evolve to their next level of advancement.
"What do you say we take our vacation over in the Sol and Alpha Centauri area this year?"
"Nah, we went there two years ago, and the hatchlings hated it!"
In short, it isn't that there are a relatively large number of gas planets evolving close to their star, it is just that those are the easiest to discover, so we have found them first.
We'll get a better answer when (if?) the James Webb telescope is launched -- it makes the Hubble look like a pair of kid's binoculars:

Without quoting statistics, and showing graphs of the distances across space, all one has to do is to go out on a clear, dark night and gaze upwards at the sky, and the immense distances in space become apparent. It is mind-boggling to comprehend that our small system is on the outskirts of our galaxy, a whirling mass of planets, stars, gas clouds, and things we have yet to discover, and beyond, deeper into space, there are innumerable more galaxies, most of them we will likely never get to see firsthand. Who is to say what is out there?

Aliens have already been here for a while now. The government is clearly keeping a damper on it while many other countries have begun the process of releasing "top secret" information on encounters with UFOs. Google the Rendlesham Forest Incident that was covered up by both the US and British military. Britain released information on it a few years ago and it completely backed up the accounts of US military personnel who witnessed what happened over two days and nights. Why does NASA have to break the live feed on the space station every couple of days? The answer is because UFOs are constantly appearing out of no where on camera and when they do NASA just happens to experience technical difficulties. There are many people watching the live feed and have captured many of the appearances before NASA shuts it down. They have also captured UFOS leaving our atmosphere at high speeds that make turns and are controlled by someone or something. I think we are past mass hysteria and the government could just disclose what they know.
Maybe. But if so, it certainly isn't "clearly." There is very little ironclad proof of anything.

And here is where the conspiracy theorists always lose me. So all the world's major governments are covering up UFOs. All four branches of the US military are complicit. Even NASA is in on it. The FBI, CIA, etc.
Do you realize how many hundreds and hundreds --- perhaps thousands and thousands? --- of people would have to keep that secret? That does not happen. It has never happened once in human history. People talk. Two men can keep a secret --- but only if one of them is dead. And yet the conspiracy theorists want us to believe that thousands of people for decades have kept the greatest secret in all of human history.

The government is made up of many people. Some believe with all their precious little hearts in UFO's and Aliens. There is no way the Government could hide proof of Aliens or UFO's.
The government couldn't keep the Manhattan Project a secret, and it involved only a few hundred people over a few years. Do we really think the government could keep the world's greatest secret for decades involving thousands and thousands of people, from the lowest private to the heads of state?
Something unexplained is going on in our skies. I'm convinced of that. But a vast conspiracy ... ? I don't buy it.
