Hello, Maybe this has been discussed here already. I am a Nurse, and had my hours decreased at work (not furloughed) and I collected unemployment, and the $600. bonus for a week.

My employer just notified us that they received the PPP loan, so now we're back to work (but get paid for our FTE whether we work or not) . I made a lot more money with the unemployment check and the bonus. Can I opt out of that PPP scenario, and get the unemployment insurance and bonus? Would that be fraudulent?

Thank you.

So you want to just sit at home and get paid and not go to work?

If you abandon your job, that is the same as quitting, and that disqualifies you for unemployment.

Unemployment is only for those who were laid off/furloughed. Sounds like you have a job to go to.

No. You cannot. That would be rejecting a qualifying job offer and you will lose your UI and your job.

Do you know how they would find out about it? Do they contact the employer or is it entered in a system or something?

There’s a few ways. The simplest of which is the employer not wanting to have their UI account charged anymore, as this inflates their tax rate.

They log into the UI portal and that’s a wrap.

It is a valid question though. This person likely just wants to maximize his/her income and as strange as it may seem, being unemployed actually pays more than a lot of jobs these days.

The fact is, that I always work more than my FTE. I'm not sure I can survive on just my FTE.

The fact is, if you refuse that job you will lose everything.

Tell your employer you want more money since you have to put your health and life in jeopardy.

Pretty sure that won't fly, but thanks for the suggestion.
