I filed for unemployment here in NYC on April 1. For the following week, I must have called a zillion times trying to get through. Then Dept of Labor instituted the callback program.

Last Saturday morning I got a call from a blocked number claiming they were from the Dept of Labor and were calling to complete my claim.

They were able to tell me the date I filed, what my last wages were, etc.

However, its been a week now, and when I go online to claim for the week, it tells me I cant claim because my claim isnt complete, and I need to call.

I hope I havent been scammed because I gave them a LOT of personal info.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I havent received a determination letter or anything like that yet and am hoping this is all down to the system being overloaded.

However, I would have thought the person who "completed" my claim, would have recorded that my claim is now "complete."

04/01/20 was 14 days ago and I've read people still waiting who filed since mid March.

What kind of personal info? I only ever entered my SS# on the automated call never over the phone.

Thanks for responding. I filed on the 1st, made calls until the 10th and they called on Saturday the 11th. They seemed to know the details about my claim, I.e. date filed etc.

That asked to confirm my SS#, my DOB and my mom's maiden name.

But most of the department’s staff is working from home, and calls from some of them may show up with a caller ID that lists “PRIVATE CALLER.” Many people might be tempted to ignore such calls, figuring it’s a sales call. But that would be a mistake.

Yeah I never got asked for SS# verbally on the phone nor would I give it.
Only on the keypad to the automated system for telecert, etc.
And mothers maiden name was never asked in my entire process but I'm in California through EDD.
After all that confirmation they should have been able to answer any question you threw at them

I just dont know how anyone woudl have known I filed, where I last worked etc. Its the Dept of Labor's fault if this turns out to be a mess. They just said "you will get a callback" and by the time I found about the guidelines, they had already called.

I tried to warn everyone this would happen. It’s not a scam. It’s so the work from home reps can call out without their home/cell numbers being broadcast.

Some other wanker posted a whole thread on scams to drum up fear in people.

Answer the blocked calls y’all!!
