I was working on-site for 5 mo for a client, through a placement agency. The placement agency is the actual "employer".

The reason the client gave to end my assignment was that they wanted
'someone with a different skillset" (a completely fabricated reason with no prior conversation, warning, etc. but they can use any reason or no reason.)

EDD will contact the placement agency for verification, not the client. I wasn't an employee of the client so I wasn't "fired". The assignment was ended, but it wasn't a layoff.

Is my Reason for Separation "Fired/Qualifications" or "Laid Off/Assignment Completed"?

It ultimately depends if "Fired/Qualifications" will still allow me to receive benefits. I want to avoid an unnecessarily "he said, she said" interview with EDD. Sometimes I've talked to someone intelligent and reasonable and sometimes I've talked to someone belligerent and unhelpful.

I was already receiving benefits based on separation from this employer on a claim from last year that just expired.

Fired (not laid off)
Other (unknown reason)

Do not select qualifications or make a false statement on the laid off.

Make sure you contact the agency to let them know you’re able and available.

California asks what my gross wages were from 01/01/2019 to 03/31/2019 for a particular employer.

I was self-employed (1099) working for one company from 01/03 - 03/15/2019. The last two weeks of that month (Mar. 2019) they converted me to full-time (W-2). Then they fired me.

Do I include my self-employment income earned from that company in my unemployment claim, or only the 2 weeks I was a company employee?

I believe I do include all income received by that company/employer in that time frame.
1. My weekly UI benefit might be determined based on this base time period and I want my earnings included.
2. Based on this case and these definitions. (People v Nest and Section 1279.)
