I was let go from my FT job in early December and I didn't deserve it. It was a shock.

I had another job that I was working before I started that job in case it didn't work out as I have been having some bad job luck for a few years.

I've always tried to fight for myself and I am struggling with whether I should go on. Nobody seems to care about me. I am single and I didn't get married as I as afraid of losing everything in a divorce.

I am still in the PT job but I only one day a week. I could pick up extra hours but I feel humiliated as people will know I lost the job.

Can I get unemployment? I was going to send them an e-mail asking as my income will drop off. Jobs don't grow on trees anymore and I went through a really hard time during the Great recession.

If you want UI, you have to APPLY.

You don't waste time sending an email asking.

If you were fired from your full-time job for something less than misconduct, you'll have a qualifying separation.

If you work one day a week part-time, then you'll collect 75% of your full UI benefit.

is it always the next week? I tried to apply for the week of my termination but it said I worked a day (today)

I was let go (I don't like the word fired) because other people gained up on me and they saw I had good skills and I identified their errors as I felt that is what I was supposed to do

Depends on what you mean by "tried." NY jumps ahead under normal circumstances. A claim filed Tuesday through Sunday is dated for the following Monday. It has nothing to do with you working. It's just the way NY does things. I hope you kept going with your application, and COMPLETED it.

You can call it whatever you want, but NY calls it a "firing/discharge" whether you like that word or not. I'm not seeing any "lay off" in your story.
