Hello,

Thank you for all the great help around here. I'm in California and I got laid off 6/18/2016 I will receive my last paycheck 7/1/2016 for the last week I worked.

Here are my quarter earnings

2015 JAN/FEB/MAR - $0
2015 APR/MAY/JUNE - $0
2015 JULY/AUG/SEPT - $0
2015 OCT/NOV/DEC - $1306
2016 JAN/FEB/MAR - $3666
2016 APR/MAY/JUNE - $4731

Should I apply now or wait to apply in July? and is there anything I can do to have EDD use the alternate base period to determine my weekly benefits?

Thank you!

Wait until July 3, earliest.

Because you qualify under the standard base period no matter when you apply, CA cannot use the ABP. ABP is only used if you do not qualify under the SBP.

Per the above, both periods show earnings over the Sec 1277 threshold of $1,300. Therefore, if you apply now, CA will use standard base period of earnings Jan-Dec. 2015. If you are correct in the $1,306, your benefit will be $53/wk for 12 weeks.

If you apply July 3 or later, CA will use earnings April 1, 2015-March 31, 2016. Your benefit will be $142/wk for 17 weeks ($4,972x50%=$2,456/$142=17).

How benefits are calculated is explained, here:
