I just received this in mail and I'm a little confused about it cause they just finished paying me on a old claim from 2009 which I believe was a tier 2 extension from 2009 and in the past the letters would always say that your next claim would be filled automatically but this letter says I have to call or visit edd website to see if I qualify

When does your current benefit year end?

CA did not just pay you from Tier 2 of your earlier claim. You also are entitled to benefits from Tier 3 of that 2009 claim. CA would have transferred you automatically to Tier 3, as well - unless you have reached a bye - in which case it would process that and continue Tier 3 if any benefits remained.

It is possible you have exhausted all 2009 EUC - AND - your current claim has no EUC eligibility.

Without have more info on your current claim - i.e., when does it expire, your WBA, base-year earnings use for that claim - can't conjecture further.

In CA, in order to qualify for EUC, total base-year earnings must exceed either: (1) 40xWBA, or (2) 1.5 high quarter earnings. You meet both tests.

Normally, CA would now pay you EUC from the 2013 claim. However, CA has had a computer upgrade which has negatively affected, in a very serious way, their processing. EUC from multiple claims is problematic for this new system. CA should transition you without you calling, but nothing is certain right now.

Call CA first thing in a.m. Use suggestions on last few pages of this thread to get through.

https://www.city-data.com/forum/unemp...alifornia.html

Or, you can visit a one-stop, and use the phone banks there which connect directly to reps.

What was once very smooth in CA is now fraught with unnecessary frustration. It's really a shame. Other states - MA and NV - to name only two, are also victims of the same incompetent contractor - Deloitte. Claimants are paying the price.

Good luck.

UPDATE
310 none stop calls later and a 3 minute of wait time later I through.

I used this thread with the trick I supplied on the very last page.

https://www.city-data.com/forum/unemp...alifornia.html

I strongly recommend it and it's been a proven method of getting through to edd. I will now be paid on a euc from my newer claim just as Ariadne22 stated I would be.

Thanks for that update.

Be aware, without Congressional extension, all federal benefit payments end 12/28/2013, regardless of remaining balance.

Per news tonight, at the moment GOP is not allowing discussion of an extension to come to the floor of the house. However, it is early days, yet. Usually, this issue is resolved at the 11th hour.

You're probably using the wrong words. You can "reopen" any time during your 52 weeks that the claim is effective and you still have a balance. However, you only get so much money, and once it's used up, then you're done until you can become eligible for a NEW claim.
