I have been on unemployment in MA since last July. I just had my claim moved to tier 2 last week, filed last week with no problems. Now today I log in to file and it says my benefit year will end July 14 - but the system still shows 12 weeks of payments available. Does anyone know what this means? Will I be shut off completely July 14??

8. I've been collecting for a year and am on Tier 2. My claim expires next week. What happens now?

Some states automatically perform the recertification process as long as you continue to file weekly or biweekly claims. In most states, you will need to telephone your state to RECERTIFY your claim. Your state will do a monetary reevaluation for a new claim. If you have not had eligible earnings during your past benefit year, your "application for a new claim" will be denied, your old claim reopened and you continue to receive benefits on that claim. You may receive confusing correspondence at this time, especially in Illinois. Be sure to telephone your state if this happens - and keep claiming if the system allows.

I am in Tennesse and my benefit year shows to have ened on 10/5/2013. However, I had remaining funds left in my account that will be exhausted this week. I had been stared on teir 1. What would I need to do, if any can be done?

You keep filing your weekly claims, and hope that TN is paying tier 3.

Have you been receiving benefits AFTER October 5, 2013?

That is one month ago.

Or are you just now trying to reopen that claim?

What is your exact situation?

If you've been allowed to claim and have been paid since Oct. 5, 2013, TN should continue to pay you from Tier 1 and the possibly Tier 2 until the end of the year - when all federal benefit payments end.

Unless, of course, TN opened a new claim for you on Oct. 5 when your benefit year ended and you don't know it.

We need more information from you.
