I initially filed my claim after losing my job in January. My boss contested it saying that I was an "independent contractor". Well, this battle waged on until I was granted a hearing on July 5th. I WON! It took the Law Judges 3 weeks to render a decision, but they ruled that I was in fact an employee and not an independent contractor. I have filed bi-weekly claims since January....soooo, they will have to back up and pay me from that time. However, how long will it take until I receive this money and until I start receiving regular checks? Any help is appreciated.
Depends on the state. You will need to follow up regularly to check on status. If you can email your DOL, do so. Normally takes 4 weeks or more to process in some states.
