at 36% of my former salary and 3 bucks an hour lower than UI. sheesh, that hurts.
I was going to offer congratulations (from reading the thread title) but after reading this I will not. Hopefully you can find a better job before this job ends.
Eeek - and it's ft hours so no "partial benefits" ? At least it extends your UE if nothing else AND more importantly gets you "back in the game".
Well, UI ends late November no matter what, unless there's a new extension. The bright spots in this is that I would get full or near full time hours. The boss really likes me and is hoping to fast track me to permanent full-time (all start as 'temp"), and is encouraging me to look into management in the future. He actually sees my potential! He hired me on the spot. Considering it's at the nearby mall, and I don't have to commute 2 hours each way, that's a benefit too. I'll volunteer for all the OT I can get. It's a CSR spot for a large retail chain.
At the worst, it will last just a few months and that's it. I have an appointment with a temp agency on Monday, so that will still be active as well. It just hurts to earn even less than UI, but jobs may not exist by the time the UI extension runs out. Holiday help would be hired by then.
Soooooo, keeps your fingers crossed that I can get on a management track and get a decent salary.

Given that your UI is almost over this is a smart move. NY is very wacky with it's way of determining "partial benefits". You'd think a big and historically progressive state like ours would do/know better. In most states "partial" is determined by how much money you earned p/t, not how many days you worked; working say 1 hour for a day should not cause you to lose 1/4 of your benefits.......IMHO it only tempts people to abuse it and to turn down jobs they might take if they did the "partial" situation different.

EXACTLY! I've never understood how they think. The terms and conditions actually DISCOURAGE people to find jobs. I think taking this job might disqualify me for any additional extensions that might be approved. I'll be punished for doing the right thing.
I wanted to file a trademark to protect a business idea I have. But if I do, I'll be considered self-employed and will lose UI, even though I'm not doing anything with the idea yet. UGH!
OUCH! Oh, my feet, my knees. 7 hours on my feet. I hope I live long enough to get my first check!
