I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who took the time to answer the questions I had about navigating the unemployment nightmare!
Hubby has been a carpenter his whole life (over 22 years in the field) and like many others in the construction field, has not been able to find a job, especially here in Nevada.
He has family in Montana who hooked him up with a contractor who won the bid on a government contract. He will be leaving for Montana (from Las Vegas) tomorrow to start his new job on Monday. The kids and I will stay here while he and his brother (who lives 200 miles from the job) will live in a small RV close to the jobsite. This situation sucks, but at this point we will do what we have to do to support our family. The job is to last from 9 months to a year, so hopefully the economy will be better by then.
Just wanted to let you know that there is hope, just keep trying. I hope you know that I'm not trying to brag, but hope that one person's success will inspire someone who is about to give up hope. I will continue to keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers!
Congrats but sorry to say the economy will not be better in a year it will be much worse. And as in your husband's case the only jobs being created right now are government ones.
Congrats and good luck! Summer of 2009 I was doing something temporary where we "separated" but I was able to come home on weekends as it was only about 100 miles away and only for 3 months.
Thank you for all the well wishes! It's about a 16 hr drive, but round trip plane ticket is around $300. Once we get caught up on the past due bills, I figure we should be able to swing it about once a month, either he comes home or I fly up there for a weekend away. No, it's not the ideal situation, but we will have to make it work. While Montana is beautiful, we don't want to uproot the family for something that may last only part of the year with no prospects of future work.
