LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- The original Capt. Kirk is disheartened he won't get to boldly go anywhere with his old pal Spock in the new "Star Trek" movie.
Shatner: How come I'm not in new 'Star Trek'? - CNN.com (http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/Movies/10/26/people.williamshatner.ap/index.html - broken link)
Let's just be kind and say that he hasn't aged well. Spock is still Spock, but Shatner looks more like a jolly little elf from the Santa Claus work shop.
They'll find a way to work him in the show. They'll make him an instructor at the academy or something.
I don't think they'd dare cast him as anyone other than James T. Kirk....
Is Leonard Nimoy going to portray the actual adult Spock? or someone else entirely?
If he's going to be Spock, the only thing I can think of is either a time-travel mechanism of some sort (the young Spock or young Kirk gets a visit from the older Spock), or the young Spock has some kind of Vulcan meditation experience wherein he sees himself in the future.
Just tossing out ideas here.
Hm, unless Shatner could appear as the young Kirk's father? (with lots of special makeup) The resemblance would then make sense. I don't recall anyone ever appearing in any of the classic series' or the movies as Kirk's father character (although Mark Lenard appeared many times as Spock's father).
