I was just listening to a Podcast on "Bugs Bunny at the Symphony" concerts around the world. I simply must catch it when it comes to London next time ! Fabulous classical music and fabulous cartoons, can anyone ask for more ?!?

I have always been a huge fan of Opera but I still can't quite listen to the "Ride of the Walkyries" without think of the Bugs Bunny episode... It is firmly implanted in my brain !

One must remember that cartoons truly used to be great works of art , with only the best draughtsmen and full orchestra in the recording studios too.

I love the old 1940s and 50s Tom and Jerry cartoons, the ones directed either by Hanna/Barbarra or Fred Quimby though the former tend to be better. I also like the old MGM cartoons by Tex Avery.

I am a big fan of Tex Avery too. Another genius of animation.

Whether for kids or grownups, I LOVE animated features. Favorite modern-day cartoons: The Iron Giant, ALL Miyakazi (esp Princess Mononoke and Totoro) and just about anything Pixar does.

But in terms of regular cartoons:

My brothers and I grew up on those *ancient* black and white Paul Terry Toons from the 30's. They would come on every Saturday morning. They were very primitive but so fun in their way--always had good vintage music. Many of them are posted on YouTube and I still watch them.
Of course we loved Merrie Melodies/Looney Toons, too.

As a kid, I especially loved Astro Boy.
Other favorites were Courageous Cat, Mighty Mouse, Heckle and Jeckle, Popeye, Rocky and Bullwinkle, and the Flintstones.

My boys and I used to watch Sailor Moon regularly, also He-Man and Thundercats. Thunder, thunder thunder thunder CATS!

I still like to watch Loony Toons,Merrie Melodies,Tex Avery,Fred Quimby,Hanna-Barbera and old Disney.
I think that covers it all.
Of the newer cartoon series I only watch the Simpsons and Beavis and Butthead.

I'm 39 and grew up on the toons of the mid-late 70s on through today. Although I'm saddened to see what cartoons have been reduced to, it's not all bad Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ben 10, and a few others save animation. I pretty much stick to Boomerang and I've started collecting the favorites of my youth. I have Jonny Quest from the 60s and Tarzan Lord of the Jungle so far
