here's the place you mentioned "up north thru the tunnel"

McClintock's Restaurant (http://www.mcclintocks-restaurant.com/aboutus.html - broken link)

the development it's in recently filed bankruptcy, so call them and see if they can handle your group....it's expensive and sorta far away, you know....

Thanks ZonyPony - just what I'm looking for - Strong details on the atmosphere, food etc... Although - no - I'm not writing a critique for a newspaper... Most people say I could ;-) I'm quite a serious cook myself and can tell you almost always - down to the last detail what is in any dish I taste. As far as our noise (cute Zony) - no.... We're dealing with a group of retired Air Force Military and they're far from noisy. I just want a place you can talk without shouting.

McClintocks... yes - I've eaten there twice. Once inside and once out on the porch where you can actually smoke which is cool. The view is breathtaking - the atmosphere is very special and rich - the food was good one night and too salty the next. The service is outstanding. The whole experience of going through the tunnel and up the mountain is very unique. It is pricey but it's a special occasion and it is not that far from where we're hanging out with family up at Splendido which is off of Rancho Vistosos. I was just wondering if the food had improved. So sorry to hear about the bankruptcy... That community has been a dream of the Gerber Ceo and in the making for years and years... Bad timing I guess.

Anyone know anything about Acacia st St. Philips, Vivace, Ventana Room, Cafe Poca Cosa or Anothony's? Does Arizona Inn have really really good food? Also - I don't remember what place it was but isn't there a chef here in Tucson that won Iron Chef?

And - are the "awards" for "best" from Tucson Magazine reliable? That's where I'm getting this newest list. What do you all think? -

OH and how is (for another night) - Angelina's for Pizza on Tangerine and Rancho Vistosos? It used to be Sassos - and from my research on this site - Many people raved about Sassos but it's now Angelina's and supposedly won some Best Pizza Challenge in Tucson....

Sorry for the million questions... ;-)

Hi again... I see that many places are closed on Sunday.. Vivace, Ventana (for the summer) and Janos, Flying V and J Bar.

I was not excited by Acacia's menu. I'm down to Cafe Poca Cosa, El Charro, Anothony's (for the view), The Grill at Hacienda del Sol, Old Pueblo (although I need to see what it looks like inside) and McClintocks...

El Charro and Cafe Poca Cosa - fun but not I think a place to sit and visit with family while eating a relaxing meal... But - could be fun and food will be great.

The Grill - I hear mixed reviews but I love the menu and atmosphere Same with McClintocks.

Pueblo - love the outside - but it will be hot in August - do they have misters?

What would you pick for 12 people... combo of food and atmosphere? Also any ideas on Travalinos?

If you're looking for great, innovative Mexican fare I would suggest Cafe Poca Cosa downtown. The atmosphere is modern and hip - check out their gorgeous bar - and you can probably reserve a big table in their back room. Cafe Poca Cosa . Or perhaps Miguel's at 5900 N. Oracle Road. Miguel's has great, fresh seafood and an upscale atmosphere (including a patio), with a nice wine selection and great margaritas. La Posada Lodge and Casitas Tucson Arizona Hotel: Dining . Buena suerte!

He cooks for Zona 78, Harvest and Hacienda Del Sol.

Do robots eat? I'm thinking not - which would explain the inability to understand the thought that goes into a single meal!
