My family and I are moving to Tucson from the east coast. We have found a house in Stone Canyon in Oro Valley but do not know too much about the area. If anyone could shed light on the area we would be grateful!

Stone Canyon is a beautiful area in Oro Valley. I live about 5 minutes from there. It is a high end exclusive/somewhat reclusive guard gated luxury home development built around a primo golf course. Some absolutely beautiful stunning homes and views. Here is a link, Stone Canyon . Homes there run from the low 1 million up to about 4 million-ish range. Still plenty of vacant lots for new construction. Though the golf course is outstanding, it has had it's financial problems. Just recently filed chapter 11. Stone Canyon Golf Course Chapter 11 Some think long term this is a good change, others not so sure, but it is an unknown. Stone Canyon is kind of a unique place, some people love it some people don't. While being very quiet and reclusive, you are only minutes away from all the amenities available in Oro Valley. (restaurants, shopping, etc.)

just make sure the somewhat-remote location will work for your entire family.....if you have young-ish kids, will they feel alone?....if you need to drive places frequently, it may become a drag hopping in the car for every little errand.....

There is a TON of information here about Oro Valley. I know because I put a lot of it there. Just type Oro Valley in the search engine box at the top of the page. If you don't get a lot of hits try Tucson Oro Valley so it searches this thread.

Looking for an update on the Stone Canyon community, the financial condition, and continued viability of the golf course. I will be visiting next week.

If you want peace and quiet, you've found it. Golf course on one side and Sun City on the other.

My mother & step father lived nearby in Sun City Vistoso in the early 2000s, and I pedaled my bicycle into Stone Canyon a couple of times when it was early in development. This is probably one of the more upscale developments in the Oro Valley area. Most homes are large and so are the lots. It is near the base of the Tortolita Mountains, which get fewer hikers and visitors compared to other mountain areas near Tucson. Honeybee Canyon is also nearby, another good walking / hiking place. The only people that drive into Stone Canyon are residents or their invited guests, which is a big reason it is so quiet. No major highways or sources of noise nearby.
