Hi,
I would like to know about the most inexpensive methods for traveling from Tucson to Phoenix for a weekend.

I have looked at Greyhound for a roundtrip (3/30-4/1), and the ticket price is $38, which is reasonable. But, I have heard that even cheaper methods exist, such as shuttles/vans, but I have no specifics.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

that's a good price....Arizona Shuttle (van to Sky Harbor) seems to be almost $80 round trip, according to their website

The most inexpensive method is your own, personal car.
Greyhound/El Crucero is the cheapest after that. However, it's a long-distance Greyhound running from San Antonio or Dallas to Phoenix, so the chances of it being late on the outbound are very high.

Arizona Shuttle has been consistently raising its rates for the last two years. I recall taking it about five years ago, when gas prices were at about $3, and it was $50 round-trip. Now it's roughly $40 one-way with no round-trip discount. But back then it was a cramped van. I believe it's more of a true bus now.

I've done rideshares through Craig's List a number of times to Phoenix, although I know that scares the hell out of a lot of people (including my wife). But I would post something everytime I went up there and there would almost always be interest. Always worked out well for me (i.e. - no crazy people) and it was nice to have someone to small talk with on that awful drive. Maybe something to look into.

Out of curiosity, Valpex . . .

What are you planning to do while in the Phoenix area as Public Transportation while there could be a little challenging?

If no vehicle available . . . possibly renting a car and driving to Phoenix may prove to be the most economical and convenient option overall.

@Bummer: I've arranged for rides and to borrow a car. Otherwise, I would rent a car.
@coatimundi: Thanks for the background information.

I think I'll just go with the Greyhound for $38. Thanks for the input, everyone.
