there are degrees of sociopaths. unfortunately, this is just an extreme but there are a lot of sociopaths in society just faking morals or ethics or not acting out simply out of self-preservation and consequences. clues in behavior don't even have to be this extreme. narcissism and lack of empathy is one, often celebrated. sound familiar?
the book 'people of the lie' showcases a lot of what we instinctively know but don't voice, the fact the most innocent or honest is usually the most rare. but those characteristics are superimposed erroneously onto people in general.

That's what I think. I only read as far as the paragraph where he explained that Elizabeth was sniffing glue and refused to listen to him when he tried to stop her. She apparently had a very bad attitude. I read that and stopped.
