Safecrackers, high tech bank holdups, security system disabling, museum art theft, precious stones & metals theft, casino jobs,etc.etc. These crimminals have deep pockets and intelligence agency or military type of equipment. Hollywood staple of the professional crimmial but do they exist in actual practice?

I have read of a few museums thefts in Europe in the previous few years but nothing in the U.S.A. since law enforcement and security devices went high tech in 1990s.

Anyone know of recent cases were high tech and well funded crimminals attempted an operation?

I know of a very accomplished, but low-tech, international thief and killer. Read Serpentine by Thomas Thompson for details on the life of Charles Sobhraj.

There was a guy right down there in SW FL scaling (Spiderman-like) up hi -rise condos and he got away with millions in jewels and cash, but I think they finally caught him.

Then there was that, (I think it was in Cali) bank that the crooks tunneled under the bank and cut right through the floor of the vault and cleaned out it's contents. I don't think that one was ever solved. Kinda clever and James Bondish stuff IMO.

^^^I recall that story. Fellow was in his 40s! Former Airborne trooper. Would climb hand over hand and enter via he unlocked sliding glass doors.

Reminded me of that fellow who famous in the 1960s/early 1970s as a jewel thief among the wealthy. Murph the Surf.http://www.crimeandinvestigation.co....biography.html

I was thinking more of the type of high tech criminal crews as shown in Heat.(1995) and numerous films since.
