MIAMI (CBS4) – Copper thefts are leaving South Florida drivers and neighborhoods in the dark. So far this year on Miami-Dade County streets alone, nearly 300 streetlights have been broken, vandalized by thieves trying to get at the copper wire inside.

Now, two county commissioners are hoping a task force can help fight the problem.

This is more easily done, by shuttting down where the theives sell their stuff.

There are legitmate sources of metal too. We have people who drive around in trucks on trash days looking for anything metal. They should be taking names for people who are trying to sell, obviously, stolen cable though. We had a problem with people taking man hole covers a couple of years ago. Seriously, did the junk yard NOT know they were tolen????
