Uber's popular ride sharing platform is now in Kennewick. I understand Richland will be on board sometime early in 2017. While millenials seem to be drawn to Uber, I think the increasing number of retirees in The Tri-Cities will eventually find a use for it as well.

For those not familiar with Uber, it is pretty easy to use. Just download the free Uber app from Uber.com to your smartphone and then add your payment information and just order one up. All payments are electronically processed. Drivers must go through a background screening for driving record, criminal check,, and their cars must pass a strict inspection. Tips are not possible on the app, but are not discouraged.

Call Richland City Hall if you want this. They seem to be slow to come to the party. This service is proven to increase commerce in cities. A win-win.

Pasco voted Uber down last month. They wanted to finger print all drivers. Which is not something drivers would object to, but Uber does. Richland continues to delay...they say Uber is not following up with them, but I think the reverse is happening. Uber will NOT succeed without participation of Richland and Pasco. Call your city and make it clear you want Uber.

Now Pasco is the last holdout. I don't think they understand how Uber can help commerce in their fine city when connected to Richland and Kennewick. I would hope they will put the issue back to a new vote. If they don't they will lose out on so much, including Tri-Cities airport. If anyone wants to get an Uber when flying into Tri-Cities airport they will be turned down. Not good for the city or the region. Pasco needs to get on board and quickly.

Maybe Pasco wants to protect the cab companies, several of which are located in Pasco?

Just a thought.

FWIW, "RAD" cab company is a good bit cheaper than the old line companies, and in my experience just as good. Some people have said that RAD was late picking them up at home, because they got lost. Anymore anybody with a smart phone should be able to find anything in Tri-Cities without getting lost...

The biggest faults with traditional cabs are: 1) They are more expensive than Uber. 2) They are not immediate, where Uber finds the nearest driver near you, saving you up to a half hour or more in waiting. 3) They expect (ok, demand a tip), where Uber this is totally optional. 4) The vehicles tend to be old and uncomfortable, whereas Uber demands late model vehicles that have passed tight inspections. 5) The drivers are professional and courteous, and are rated by the riders online, whereas taxi drivers have no such rating system other than not tipping. Go Uber!
