I've always had assigned seating on both airlines.
Are you using Firefox as a browser? I was having a bit of trouble with the Air Tran site, then switched my browser to Chrome and it was okay.
I can't remember the process for Frontier, but recall on AirTran that they have additional charges for seat selection. I know I paid a little extra for exit row between phoenix & atlanta (they then gave me a complimentary bump to exit when I checked in at phoenix for my leg between atl and orlando)
I'm assuming that you guys have booked AirTran and Frontier flights on their respective websites.
How do you select specific seats when booking online?
Plus, on Frontier's website, how come all the seats are blocked out when you view the Economy section?
Any more it is hit or miss trying to select seats when booking a flight. Airlines often block the seats in the front half of the cabin for their elite passengers. Asile seats often get blocked. If all of the seats are blocked chances are you will not be able to select a seat until check in time. My best advise is if you can not select a seat when booking the flight, check back from time to time. Often, a couple days before the flight the airlines will slowly start un-blocking seats. If that does not work, then check in exactly 24 hours before departure. That is when you have the best chance of getting the seat you want. Even after you check in, unless you got the seat you wanted, check from time to time to see if a better seat opens up. Often a business passenger will cancel out or an elite passenger gets upgraded.
I have a ticket right now for a return flight on Frontier and they did not let me choose a seat. Not sure why.
