In the initial planning stage for a large group going to Aruba in the next year or so. Has anyone had experience renting a home or villa, or is it best to stay at the hotel/time share properties? Haven't been there in 30 years, so not sure about safety being in residential areas. Prefer to be between Eagle & Palm beaches and either beachfront, or a short walk to the beach.
I'm not sure how helpful I'll be, but we visited 8 years ago and found the island to be extremely safe in general - and we had a rental car and drove all over Aruba. That said, I think for proximity of restaurants and for the actual beach, it might be best to stay directly on Palm Beach. There are lots of hotels there across different price ranges (generally expensive though, of course).
We stayed a Riu Palace, did an All Inclusive, not worth doing the All Inclusive IMO, food was meh....couldn't make a decent Pina Coloda, or White Russian, only beer available was Chill and Belashi.....I went with Chill. Next time around may be Riu Atillas (Adult only).....too many 7-10 year olds taking seats at the swim up bar and other seating in the pool. The Catamaran was a blast, ABC Tours was the best, the lunch they served was way better than at the Palace

Yeah Aruba has a lot of solid restaurants and I don't think an all-inclusive is necessary there. The island is also generally very safe, so no concerns re: leaving the hotel property to go to a restaurant as you might have in Jamaica or the DR.
Thanks all, but has anyone stayed in a private house rental?
