I have made innumerable trips on Greyhound since I was a teenager (I am 52 now). My parents were divorced, and I lived with my father, so monthly or so I made the 2½-hour trek by bus to see my mother. Also, as a teen I was very active in my denomination's youth group on a national level, and, not being a driver, I used Greyhound to travel all over the place.

I still love riding the bus, and only fly when I'm under a time constraint. I have never had a driver's license (sleep disorder). I live in Columbus, Ohio, and am taking the bus to Central Florida for Christmas to visit my daughter and my ex, and next spring will be headed to San Francisco.

When I tell people I'm riding the bus instead of flying, they always look at me like I'm crazy. But, I have seen more of the country, and always travel with books, my diary, and my Nook, so time is really not a factor.

I've used Megabus occasionally, too. (My fare from Columbus to Atlanta was $1!) It's best when you get a seat on the top level above the driver, right by the big forward-facing windows (except when the glass is smeared with bird droppings and dead bugs, of course ).

So... Am I the only person who loves travelling by bus out there?

^^^

I am not really excited about Greyhound travel. I have encountered too many issues, especially in my travels through Ohio.

Megabus is a lot better and there are opportunities for some really good fares throughout the system.

I have taken Greyhound within Florida and within California and it was okay. Also I have taken Peter Pan buses in the Northeast and they are usually okay as well. But I doubt I'd want to do much longer trips by bus.

My daughter took the coach from Rome to Padova on Monday- seven and a half hours.

She said that she witnessed a lovely sunset as they drove through Tuscany.

In Northern California, where we have no rail, the bus is an attractive option. Six hours of riding vs. six hours of driving (to San Francisco).Or you can fly which involves 4 hours of drive /wait/fly/shuttle. I'll probably do it(bus) at least once over the winter.

I do like night buses for long distance travel. You don't waste a day traveling and you save cost of lodging for one night.

They have some really comfy ones too.

You might be!

I have done it, but I always feel there are too many sketchy people onboard.

I do.

I have been on 24-hour and 27-hour bus trips across Europe. If you are not too pressed for time, it is nice to, in a way, fall out of the flow of things for one day. You just lie there, listening to music and watching the landscape go by. Nowhere to go, nothing special to do, nothing to take care of, as the bus takes you to your destination. It does get tiring after 24 hours on the road, but by that time the trip is almost over.
