If you are looking for warm weather, I would suggest either Israel or Ecuador.
Israel is a small country and one can tour around as there is an excellent public transportation system. Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa and Eilat have major tourist attractions.
Ecuador is famous for the Galapagos Islands. Also one can visit Quito (the capital), Guayaquil, Cuenca, etc.
I've got two weeks in October and I'm not sure what to do with the time. Anyone out there going on an adventure for two weeks in October who might enjoy a travel companion ... good food, photography, wine, bikes, sun, fresh air, and quiet sleeps? ... guaranteed interesting

It can be hit-or-miss up there weather-wise but the Leelenau and Mission peninsulas and the Sleeping Bear Dunes area around Traverse City, Michigan will be full of fall colors (example below from Chateau Grand Traverse), with decent riesling and cab franc wines. I was there a few years back in early October, and it was low-80s every day, which may or may not be the case any year. TVC is a laid-back city and in October the summer tourists are not there. Costs were low, too, most places were at less than 50% occupancy.
Last year's New England foliage was wrecked by a heavy rain, but Quebec was vibrant. And the ice wines were excellent.
go backpacking in Yellowstone . You will never forget or regret it . I loved every minute of it .
